Montreal World Film Festival Under Way

From Hollywood Reporter:

MONTREAL -- The Montreal World Film Festival looks to have its mojo back, as it enters its first weekend.

"Everyone is back and everyone is behind us," Montreal festival director Serge Losique said Friday as he counted the local politicians and sponsors once again underwriting his festival after years of fractious infighting between the city's summer film festivals.

MONTREAL – For an event that was nearly administered last rites four years ago, the 33rd Montreal World Film Festival appears remarkably robust.

This season’s edition consists of 400 films from 78 countries in 9 categories, from Aug. 27 to Sept. 7. Of these, 240 are features, 130 are global or international premieres, and 64 are features by first-time directors.

“It’s a very solid lineup,” observed founder Serge Losique during yesterday’s press conference at his festival’s flagship venue, the Imperial Theatre.
