Rob Nicholson expresses confidence in Quebec's ability to sort out allegations of corruption and mob ties driving up price of infrastructure projects.

Don't expect the federal government to get involved in the murky allegations of corruption and mafia ties enveloping Montreal's city hall.

Justice Minister Rob Nicholson indicated Friday morning that Ottawa will leave the mess to Quebec, and expressed confidence that the province can sort it out.

My Comment: One has to go back a few decades when the Quebec Government last investigated the role of the mafia in Quebec's construction industry. I guess that after a number of years passed, the sons of the Dons simply took over where their dads first operated from.

SQ Completes Investigation On Construction Corruption: Report

The Surete du Quebec has reportedly completed its investigation on the link between the construction industry and organized crime.

According to a report in La Presse, the SQ's conclusions have been sent to the force's director, and charges could be laid at any time.

The police investigations were made public in early March, and hinged on Jocelyn Dupuis, the director of FTQ-construction, and current and past members of the Hells Angels.

My Comment: This is probably going to be the first of many investigations in Quebec's construction industry.

Police raids; Seizure orders placed on $10M of Hells Angel's assets, Sûreté says.

The police investigation into Quebec's construction industry heated up yesterday with seizure orders placed on what police say is $10 million worth of assets belonging to a member of the Hells Angels.

Searches were carried out at several addresses, including a home once linked to the Montreal Mafia.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Claude Denis said that yesterday's work was part of a continuing investigation into the infiltration of organized crime into the construction industry in order to launder money.
