Mario Dumont will officially resign March 6 as leader of the Action Démocratique du Québec as the party gears up for its first leadership race.
Dumont made the announcement, as well as his intention to give up his provincial seat in Rivière-du-Loup, in a letter to the party president Tuesday.
On the night of his provincial party's crushing election defeat last December, Dumont said he would step down as leader.
