WASHINGTON - Alex Kovalev will not be in the lineup when the Canadiens play the Washington Capitals tonight -- and nobody should be surprised if the talented Russian has played his last game for the Canadiens.
Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey dropped a bombshell before the Canadiens' practice yesterday af ternoon when he announced Kovalev would not join the team for games in Washington tonight and in Pittsburgh tomorrow night.
