Montreal city councillors Sammy Forcillo and Cosmo Maciocia say they don't know the people who claimed to act on their behalf in an alleged extortion scheme targeting a contractor renovating the roof at city hall, and they say they knew nothing of the incident.
The two councillors, members of the city executive committee and of Mayor Gérald Tremblay's Union Montreal party, outed themselves late yesterday as the two unnamed elected officials mentioned in a La Presse report on the extortion allegation. They said they did so to quell any speculation about who the mystery councillors might be.
The Sûreté du Québec is investigating the matter.
