Montreal Grow-Ops Raided by Police

Police Seeking To Arrest Over 200 In Quebec Raids -- Canada.com

MONTREAL - Garden centres that specialize in hydroponics appeared to be a central part of a vast police operation that targeted marijuana producers, distributors and exporters, in Montreal and the surrounding area Tuesday.

More than 800 officers from the Quebec provincial police, RCMP, Montreal, Laval and Longueuil police departments were conducting raids, which began around 7 a.m., at 40 suspected grow-ops, homes and businesses.

Police expect to make more than 200 arrests during the busts - dubbed Operation Borax - which stem from an investigation police say began in 2005, when they first discovered evidence of a large-scale marijuana ring operating out of businesses in the Montreal area.
