MONTREAL - It was 75 years ago this Friday that Pepsi produced its first bottle of the soft drink outside the U.S.
You won’t be shocked to hear that it was in Quebec, at its plant on de Fleurimont St.
Since then, the beverage has been the preferred drink of many in the province, outpacing its arch-rival, Coke.
Pepsi also became the butt of jokes.
It was sometimes used in a derogatory fashion by outsiders to refer to Quebecers, and sometimes used in a self-effacing way by Quebecers themselves, though its use in both cases has waned in recent years.
