From The CBC:
A teacher at a prestigious Montreal private school is facing more than 200 new child pornography charges in the United States, police said.
Richard Doucet, 36, was arrested in May in a police sting operation in Fredericksburg, Va., shortly after arriving in the city.
Doucet, who teaches English and math at Selwyn House in Montreal's Westmount neighbourhood, was picked up by an undercover officer who had been posing online as a 13-year-old boy.
Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said Doucet is now facing 115 new counts of possessing child pornography, and another 115 counts of reproducing child pornography, in connection with images alleged to have been found on one of two compact discs seized in his motel room after his arrest.
"The contents of one of those CDs are what prompted these additional charges," Bledsoe told CBC News on Friday.

Heat Sets New Record For Montreal Today

From The Gazette:
MONTREAL - After a glorious first week of September, with temperatures well above seasonal norms, Montrealers experienced an almost 15-degree climb in temperatures yesterday, and we smashed a record for the hottest Sept. 5 on record at Trudeau International Airport.
We awoke to a comfortable 17 Celsius but as the skies cleared and the sun beat down, the mercury climbed to its highest point of 32.9C at 3 p.m., surpassing the previous high of 32C set in 1999.
In comparison, we were shivering in our sweaters and long pants back in 1974 when Montreal's then Dorval airport weather station registered a low of 5C.

Investigators spent nine months using technology and old-fashioned sleuthing to find four suspects who they alleged stole $1.8 million from a Calgary company.
The operation involved the U.S. Secret Service and municipal police in Calgary and Vancouver - as well as in Montreal, where investigators arrested four Quebec-based suspects.
Among those charged with theft of credit-card data and fraud is Ehud Tenenbaum, a 29-Israeli national living in Montreal.

No Student ID? Tough, Fork Over $118
From the Montreal Gazette:Welcome to CEGEP - here's a $118 ticket for using public transit without the proper ID.
That's the lesson a freshman Dawson College student got from a Montreal Transit Corp. inspector last week, as long lines of students formed and some confusion set in over the implementation of the new Opus transit pass for students.
The MTC is currently photographing 175,000 students for the cards, which permit users to "load" them with passes from various transit agencies in Greater Montreal.

Coroner's Report On The Shooting At Dawson College
Man who opened fire was mentally troubled for years, coroner reveals, but still able to obtain weapons legally
MONTREAL -- Brooding, boozed up and living as a violence-obsessed recluse, Kimveer Gill was so intent on carrying out his shooting rampage at Dawson College that he was prepared to kill his parents if they unearthed his plans, a coroner disclosed yesterday.
A chilling portrait of the gunman revealed he was depressed and psychologically troubled for years preceding the 2006 assault, but was nonetheless able to legally amass his weaponry.
Mr. Gill killed one student and wounded 16 others two years ago this month.
Jacques Ramsay's report into the tragedy suggests Mr. Gill had shown signs of mental distress for years. In 2004, he consulted a doctor and psychologist for depression and suicidal thoughts. He had up to seven drinks a day to help his anxiety.

Ban Semi-Automatic Weapons Used In Dawson College Attack: Coroner
Students run from Montreal's Dawson College after gunman Kimveer Gill opened fire inside on Sept. 13, 2006. (Ryan Remiorz/Canadian Press)From The CBC:
Dawson College shooter was ready to kill his parents to protect his plan
The man who stormed Montreal's Dawson College in 2006 and opened fire on students planned his attack for months, and was ready to kill his parents if they discovered his plans, a Quebec coroner said in a report on the deadly rampage.
Granting health professionals access to the federal and Quebec gun registries, banning the semi-automatic weapon used by killer Kimveer Gill and improving institutional emergency plans were among the main recommendations made by the coroner's office to avoid similar attacks in the future.
The heavily armed Gill, 25, descended on the downtown college campus on Sept. 13, 2006, and shot several students, killing Anastasia DeSousa and wounding 16 others, before he shot himself in front of two hostages.

Mount Royal May Get Walking, Cycling Loop
From The Montreal Gazette:MONTREAL - It's an idea that has been in the planning stage for nearly 20 years, but a ring road around Mount Royal for cyclists and pedestrians now seems closer to reality.
The city's public consultation office released its findings yesterday into hearings on the 10-kilometre loop, originally proposed in 1990. Most people were in favour of the road.
The plan would involve linking the existing Olmstead path - which begins near McGill's Molson Stadium, and runs to the Mount Royal Summit - though the cemetery, the grounds of the Université de Montréal, and then back to the Olmstead path.
The consultation office said people who attended hearings last June also suggested building a walking path to the mountain from the Édouard Montpetit or the Université de Montréal métro stations. They also suggested building a path that would link the three summits of Westmount, Mount Royal and Outremont.
Such a path is not being planned and would have to be worked out with the demerged suburb of Westmount.
Quebec's Annual Marijuana Hunt
MONTREAL AREA - About 100 police officers from three forces raided by a Canadian army helicopter raided fields south and east of Montreal today and scooped up more than 10,000 marijuana plants.
The coordinated raids were described by Constable Ronald McInnis of the Sûreté du Québec as a blitz, part of a continuing operation to fight marijuana production at the source, prevent it from getting to schools, and
combatting organized crime. Called Opération Césaire, it include SQ and RCMP officers and Rousillon police, which covers Saint-Constant, Candiac, Delson, La Prairie, and Ste. Catherine.
A total of 34 sites were visited in the Montérégie area, from Vaudreuil to St. Hyacinthe. One man in Rivière Beaudette near Vaudreuil was arrested and is to be charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking purposes.
Robin Williams Coming To Montreal

Williams On His Way -- Canada.com
Comedy superstar Robin Williams's rare stand-up tour hits Place des Arts Nov. 20
The mouth that roars will finally roar in Montreal. Robin Williams, among the most sought-after stand-ups in the comedy capital that is Montreal and elsewhere on the planet, brings his Weapons of Self-Destruction tour to Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place des Arts on Nov. 20.
This marks Williams's first-ever concert performance in Montreal and his first comedy tour since 2002. Prior to that, Williams, who had been focusing more on his film career, had not undertaken a stand-up tour for 16 years.
His rational for taking to the road now was simple. "It's an election year, which is basically Christmas for stand-up comics," said Williams in a release yesterday. "And I figured I should get my ass on the road while the Shrub is still in office. A lot has happened in the world and in my life since I last did this six years ago and there's no better thrill and no better therapy than getting on that high-wire in front of a live audience."

Gagliano Receives Federal Loan To Buy Vineyard
From the National Post:
MONTREAL -- A Montreal newspaper is reporting that a former cabinet minister in charge of the federal program linked to the sponsorship scandal has bought a vineyard in Quebec's Eastern Townships with a government loan of more than $500,000.
Montreal La Presse reported on the weekend that the purchase of the Dunham vineyard was registered last Friday in the Quebec Land Registry for $733,687. The loan from Farm Credit Canada, a federal Crown corporation, was for $550,000.
Alfonso Gagliano and his family plan to harvest the grapes in the next few weeks and sell their wine under the name Gagliano Vineyard by next spring, he told La Presse.
As public works minister in the late 1990s, Mr. Gagliano was responsible for the program geared to promote federalism in Quebec.

My Comment: I also have a farm (vineyard) in Dunham. He is only a click away from my place. This makes my blood boil. The money that I invested came from my pocket and hard work .... it is infuriating that someone like him can use people's tax dollars to have some fun.
Question. I spent years learning about growing and making wine. What is his expertise?
