Quebec's Annual Marijuana Hunt

Raids Net More Than 10,000 Marijuana Plants -- The Montreal Gazette

MONTREAL AREA - About 100 police officers from three forces raided by a Canadian army helicopter raided fields south and east of Montreal today and scooped up more than 10,000 marijuana plants.

The coordinated raids were described by Constable Ronald McInnis of the Sûreté du Québec as a blitz, part of a continuing operation to fight marijuana production at the source, prevent it from getting to schools, and
combatting organized crime. Called Opération Césaire, it include SQ and RCMP officers and Rousillon police, which covers Saint-Constant, Candiac, Delson, La Prairie, and Ste. Catherine.

A total of 34 sites were visited in the Montérégie area, from Vaudreuil to St. Hyacinthe. One man in Rivière Beaudette near Vaudreuil was arrested and is to be charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking purposes.
