West End Needs Better Transit, Too -- A Commentary
From The Montreal Gazette:
Ever-worsening road gridlock in and around Montreal costs us a staggering $1.4 billion a year in time lost, fuel wasted, and increased greenhouse-gas emissions, the Quebec Transport Department reports.
In the long run, and even the medium term, the solution to this frustrating waste is not to keep building more new roads. Certain construction projects still make sense, but more broadly nobody can deny that traffic jams, oil prices, and the problem of climate change should be pushing Montreal - and every other city - toward improvements in mass transit, among other remedies.
