Buildings part of controversial land deal with city housing agency.


Arson may have caused a major fire in Montreal’s east-end Friday that destroyed 96 condo apartments in six uninhabited buildings under construction, a project known as Faubourg Contrecoeur, located next to the old Lafarge quarry.

The early morning blaze was on land sold in 2007 by the city's housing agency to a private land developer, for a price eight times lower that its estimated value.
