Canadiens Markov Gone For 4 months
Markov's injury leaves huge hole; Hamrlik will join No. 1 defensive unit, but shelves bare for trade replacement.
MONTREAL – Head coach Jacques Martin has talked a lot about the Canadiens' depth on defence this season, but that long bench will be severely challenged following the loss of Andrei Markov.
The 30-year-old Russian suffered torn tendons in his left ankle when it was sliced by goaltender Carey Price's skate in the third period of Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over Toronto. Markov underwent surgery in Toronto overnight and returned to Montreal yesterday to begin his recovery.
