Quebec Law On 'Fundamental Values' Passes First Hurdle Unanimously

QUEBEC — The Quebec government voted unanimously to accept the "fundamental values of the Quebec nation" on Tuesday, which includes the dominance of the French language.

The Parti Quebecois bill, which is on its first reading, also included the equality of women and men and the separation of religion and the government.

Bill 391 would modify the province's human-rights charter, giving the three values, plus "Quebec's historical heritage," precedence over other rights.

My Comment: This law on "fundamental values" ignores everyone who is not French. Indians and native peoples .... they do not exist. The Inuit .... they do not exist. The English and immigrant communities .... they do not exist.

In any other country in the world this law will be regarded as culturally racist and discriminatory .... but not in Quebec.
