The Olympic Torch Relay was in Bromont Sunday morning and Mario Deslauriers, who competed in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, carried the torch while riding his horse.

BROMONT — When the Olympic Games’ equestrian events came here 33 years ago, Mario Deslauriers was a horse-loving 11-year-old who had a chance to see world-class athletes compete in his hometown.
“I remember running around and having a pass so I could go watch the jumping,” said Deslauriers, who went on to compete in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics as part of the Canadian equestrian team, placing fourth in both games.
“That’s where it really began, my career, and knowing what I wanted to do.”
