Public transit boost this year and next.
The Société de Transport de Montréal welcomed news yesterday that the Quebec government will invest more than $700 million to upgrade public transit in the greater Montreal area this year and in 2010.
According to a document obtained by La Presse, the Quebec Transport Department earmarked $276 million for the Société de transport de Montréal and $246 million for the Agence métropolitaine de transport, with another $40 million for the Société de transport de l'Outaouais for an express bus service in the Gatineau region.
It is all part of a three-year capital expenditure program that was announced in 2007.
Another $125 million will be spent on new buses, equipment, garages, and other infrastructure.
