15,000, Including Police, Expected At Montreal Rave Weekend

MONTREAL — Fifty Montreal police officers have been hired to help sniff out illicit drugs among the 15,000 people attending the Bal en Blanc (White Party) this weekend.

The officers — some in plainclothes, the rest in uniform — will work alongside 200 security guards hired for the event, now in its 15th year and billed as the biggest electronic dance music festival in Canada.

The party began Thursday and lasts through Monday. Tickets cost $105. The main event takes place overnight Saturday at the downtown Palais des congres, but clubs across the city are holding parties.
