Habs Dismantle Islanders 5-1 -- The Montreal Gazette

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The power play is back and, as a result, the Canadiens find themselves with some breathing room in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

The Canadiens scored three power-play goals as they rolled over the New York Islanders, 5-1. The win not only gave the Canadiens a three-point edge over the ninth-place Florida Panthers, but they also slipped into seventh place. They are one point ahead of the New York Rangers, who have played one more game.

Montreal has taken nine of a possible 10 points in its last five games and the power play has been the key. The Canadiens went 3-for-8 Thursday night and are 10-for-30 - a success rate of 33.3 per cent - in the last five games.
