FLQ Manifesto Cheered

Readings mark 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

QUEBEC - Rowdy separatists cheered and chanted, “Nous vaincrons!” the FLQ battle cry, just after 12 a.m. Sunday when Montreal singer and actor Luck Mervil read the 1970 manifesto of the Front de Libération du Québec, the highlight of a 24-hour reading of texts drawn from Quebec’s history.

The event, on the Plains of Abraham, was meant to commemorate the 1759 Battle of the Plains of Abraham, 250 years ago Sunday, and the survival of French in North America, in spite of that conquest.
