MONTREAL - Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois has undergone successful surgery to remove her appendix.
Marois, 59, checked into a hospital Sunday morning complaining of stomach pains and nausea. Doctors initially diagnosed her with food poisoning before determining the cause of her illness was appendicitis.
She underwent surgery Sunday evening.
Marie Barrette, Marois' media aide, says there were no complications and she will learn later Monday how long she will need to recover.
