The Council of Commissioners at the Lester B. Pearson School Board has voted in favour of closing three elementary schools in the West Island.

The three schools that will close are Jubilee Elementary School in Pointe Claire, Bishop Whelan Elementary School in Dorval, and Purcell Academy in Pierrefonds.

Monday night's public meeting at Lindsay Place High School in Pointe Claire was the final step in a consultation process that began last winter.

My Comment: I personally know of 4 French families in my area (my neighbors) who would give their eye-teeth to have their children exposed to a free English education. Two of them are sending their kids to a private English school ... the other two do not have the funds to do so. Among my friends who are French Quebecers .... all of them want their children to be exposed to English as a second language .... but it is denied to them according to the law.

This is an issue that is not going away.
