The Changing Beat Of Montreal: Les FrancoFolies

les francofolies reflect the city's wide variety of music, with its stages welcoming artists from as far as Ivory Coast, Algeria, France, Brazil and Cuba and presenting all kinds of crazy-culture one-offs for free.

The city that hosts Les FrancoFolies, the largest francophone music festival on the planet, has changed dramatically over the last decade. Montreal is a metropolis where French is the predominant language but - infused with the cultures of global migrations (the newcomers invariably darker skinned than "les pure laines") - where it is also merely a language among many others.
