From The CBC:

New native police force favoured, Diabo says.

Most residents in the Mohawk community of Kanesatake are not happy with how Quebec's provincial police are patrolling their territory and they want a new native force created to target criminal activity, according to a report obtained by CBC's French-language service.

My Comment: Anyone who spends anytime in or beside a reservation knows that criminal gangs run the place. It could be smoke shops, marijuana operations, or a conduit for the smuggling of contraband .... but they run the place. If the native community police force does not follow their rules, they will burn down the Police Chief's home or the Police station.

The problem in many of these communities is that the locals keep on electing band council representatives who only wish to keep the criminal status quo in place. Too many "under the table" jobs are dependent on things remaining the same .... any change is feared and opposed.
