$35 Million Space Journey Parlayed Into Half-Billion-Dollar Bonanza: Guy Laliberté

Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté last month spent $35 million for a vanity trip to space... er, I mean on a trip to space that taught the world about the lack of safe water in many parts of the world (through his One Drop Foundation).

Turns out the billionaire also hired a company, Influence Communication, to detail the financial benefits of the 12-day voyage. Today, Influence made that analysis public.

It calculated that all the media coverage of his trip was worth $592,425,679 (and 34 cents). That amount represents the "advertising value of media coverage of Guy Laliberté’s flight into space, based on the advertising value of the market," Influence explains.
