It appears the Bell Centre vigil for Alex Kovalev was not enough to move Montreal Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey.
Gainey told Montreal radio station CJAD on Monday that the star right winger took too long to accept a contract offer, and so the team used the money on another player. Wingers Brian Gionta and Mike Cammalleri were signed by the team at the beginning of NHL free agency last week.
