Fifteen Minutes That Are Causing Trouble In The Ambulance Service

Ambulance dispatchers who handle 911 emergency calls across Montreal Island and Laval are at loggerheads with Urgences Santé management over a new procedure.

As a result, they've been defying a Feb. 2 policy directive "eight or 10 times on an average busy day," union president Alain Bissonnette said yesterday.

Each of the 48 "has been warned verbally that they will be suspended if they don't follow the new procedure," he added. No suspensions have been imposed to date, Bissonnette said, and no lengths for the suspensions have been specified.
