Montreal's Blue-Collar Workers To Strike

MONTREAL -- Montreal’s blue-collar workers’ union confirmed it will go on strike at midnight on Aug. 31 in an email sent to city officials Wednesday.

The blue-collar union, Local 301 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, served the strike notice at 5:30 pm Wednesday, Jean Yves Hinse, the city’s director of professional relations, said last night.

“We were supposed to meet to negotiate in August, September and October, so we’re a bit surprised to get hit with this notice,” he said. “Everything was fine.”

My Comment: The union is flexing their muscles .... and they are eyeing the November Municipal elections as their pressure point.
