New $300M U.S. Departure Wing At Trudeau Airport

MONTREAL ­ For travellers who have suffered the indignities of lengthy lines in cramped quarters while schlepping luggage through customs and security at Trudeau International Airport, there is cause for hope.

Aéroports de Montréal unveiled its state-of-the-art, $300-million departures area for travellers headed to the United States, opening for service Wednesday morning. The airy, glass-fronted building situated at the far end of the airport for travellers driving into the departures area has 50-per cent-greater capacity at its check-in, security and customs facilities. Accompanied by a rejigging of the security process that authorities say makes it one of the most sophisticated systems in the world, passage to the boarding gate is promised to be much quicker.
