Tree-Killing Beetles Closing In On Montreal

A highly destructive beetle appears to be creeping closer to the Montreal region.

About 160 trees in the city of Carignan, 40 kilometres south of Montreal have been infected with the emerald ash borer, up from just two trees a year ago.

“It eats away at the trees from the inside out,” said Guy Gravelle, a spokesperson at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
