The game of bocce traces its roots back to the era of the Roman emperors, and the pastime is enjoying a surge of popularity across Montreal Island.
MONTREAL--About 30 men and women laugh and shout from the edges of an outdoor court in LaSalle, where the ancient game of bocce is being played.
"Verde!" one man yells, hoping the green ball he just tossed down the lane is closest to the "pallino," a smaller ball that's used as a target.
"Rosso!" another calls after him, asserting his red ball will bring another point to his team.
