New legislation aims to downgrade industry's role in deciding what goes on in the woods.
By all accounts, August will not be a restful month for Nathalie Normandeau, Quebec's deputy premier and recently-appointed minister in charge of natural resources.
Topping her new department's agenda is the Forestry Occupancy Act, a bill that will be the subject of National Assembly committee hearings beginning Sept. 1 and a bill that proposes to revolutionize forest management in Quebec as it downgrades industry's role in deciding what goes on in the woods.
